Introduction
If you read your horoscope in the paper, on the train, or scroll through it on your phone — you're already doing astrology. This guide will take you from "I know I'm a Leo" to a full picture of your astrological profile, in 10 steps you can finish in an afternoon.
Astrology has been studied for thousands of years across many cultures. The Western tradition this site uses — based on the tropical zodiac and the 12 sun signs — was largely shaped in ancient Greece, refined in the Hellenistic period, and revived in modern times. You don't need to believe it's prophetic to find it useful: many people use astrology as a self-reflection tool, a conversational shorthand, or a contemplative practice.
Step 1 — Find your zodiac sign
The first thing to know is your sun sign (also called your zodiac sign or star sign). It's the sign of the zodiac the Sun was in on your birthday. Tap your sign below to read its personality profile and date range:
People born on the cusp (within a day or two of a sign change) should check the birth chart calculator for an exact reading — cusp dates shift slightly from year to year due to leap-year adjustments.
Steps 2–4 — Sun, moon, and ascendant
The sun sign is only one layer. Two people born the same day can feel very different — and the moon sign and rising sign are usually the reason. Your moon sign (the inner emotional self) and rising sign (how others first perceive you) round out the picture.
To find them you'll need your full birth data: date, time, and place of birth. Place and time matter because the Moon changes signs every 2½ days and the ascendant changes every 2 hours.
Reading the forecasts for all three signs together makes the horoscopes in your favourite magazines a lot more useful — and more accurate-feeling.
Step 5 — Advanced reports
