I Didn't Have A Chance To Say Good-bye

We didn't talk a lot when he was alive,
I had moved away from home early in life,
Always trying to stay in touch,
But neither of us never really saying much,
We talked but it was never a close talk,
Not the way I wanted it to be,
Just my daddy and me,
Saying what was in our hearts,
Would have been nice,
How could I have known,
That today he would be gone,
From my life,
Days have passed by,
I keep asking myself why,
I didn't have the strength,
To talk to him as I should,
Was it something in our pasts,
That kept us from being close,
Perhaps it wasn't his nature to open his heart,
But,
From this very sad day, till it's my time,
Here on this earth to end,
I will always wonder why,
He and I,
Never had the chance,
To say good-bye.

"Joe, so nice to hear from you and receive your letter. At a time like this when there is so much terrisiom in our world, I can only say I am glad to be Canadian. True, we have our hardships like any other country, but nothing in comparison to what happened in New York yesterday and like you, I feel so sorry for the many people who lost their lives. These people were innocent of any crimes, they weren't politicians who make the decisions of the world, but sadly they gave up their lives for their country, and without choice. A sad day for the entire world. Let us hope that they people responsible for this terrible crime are caught and brought to justice.
Perhaps if you see it fit, you can publish the attached poem, in memory of the many people who died without ever having a chance to say goodbye. Joe, if you decide to publish the poem, please include the dedication.
