A birth chart (also called a natal chart) is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It plots where the Sun, Moon, and every planet sat across the 12 zodiac signs and 12 astrological houses. The result is a personalized astrological profile that goes well beyond your sun-sign horoscope.

For best accuracy, enter your date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth. The calculator returns your daisy-wheel chart, aspects chart, and a written interpretation of your personality and life themes.

: Enter your local legal time at birth — don't adjust for summer time, the calculator handles that automatically.
Start typing — there's a large database of localities (enter at least 3 letters to pick from the list). If your exact birthplace isn't listed, try the nearest large city.

The birth chart shows a few placements you should always remember. You probably already know your sun sign. Add your ascendant (rising sign) — it's nearly as influential and tells you how you come across to others. The moon sign rounds it out, describing your emotional nature and inner self. In traditional astrology, the moon sign was actually considered more important than the sun sign.

If you like, take it one step further and run a compatibility analysis by comparing your birth chart with another person's. The result is a detailed look at how the two charts interact in love, friendship, or partnership.

Tip: when you read your zodiac horoscope in a paper or online, always read the predictions for your sun sign AND your rising sign. They cover different layers and you'll get a fuller picture.

Frequently asked about birth charts

What is a birth chart?

A birth chart (also called a natal chart) is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It maps where every planet was sitting in the 12 zodiac signs and 12 astrological houses. Where each planet sat shapes a different facet of personality, relationships, and life themes.

What do I need to calculate my birth chart?

Date, time, and place of birth. The Moon changes signs every 2½ days and the ascendant changes every 2 hours, so accurate birth time matters. If you don't know your exact time, we can run a sunrise chart instead (check the box on the form).

What's the difference between sun, moon, and rising signs?

Sun sign = your core identity (set by birth date). Moon sign = your inner emotional life (needs birth time). Rising sign / ascendant = the version of you others see first (needs birth date, time, and place). All three together give a much richer picture than the sun sign alone.

Why is the ascendant (rising sign) so important?

The ascendant rules the first house of the chart and shapes how you appear to others — your style, your first impression, your physical bearing. Many astrologers treat the ascendant's ruling planet as the "chart ruler" and give it extra weight in interpretation. It's the reason two people with the same sun sign can come across very differently.

Is my birth chart data stored?

No. The chart calculation is performed by our partner service for the single request — we don't keep your birth date, time, or place. See our privacy policy for details.
